Chandigarh, June 15, 2015: The first meeting of Board of Governors of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University, Bathinda was presided over by the Chief Secretary, Punjab Mr.Sarvesh Kaushal, IAS, today.

It was resolved to make the new Technical University a world class institution with zero tolerance to mediocrity and corruption. Emphasis was laid upon the imperative need to develop this University as a centre of excellence with the highest standards of intellectuality and competence.

The jurisdiction of this University extends to 11 districts i.e. Bathinda, Ferozepur, Moga, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka. 

Discussions were held to devise a curriculum with the latest inputs from the best technical universities in India and abroad to ensure that the students passing out of the University meet the demand of industries and the requirements of the gainful self employment. It was expected that this university would become a hub of technical capacity building of the youth of the State. Chief Secretary further stated that since he is the chairman of the Board of Governors of Punjab Technical University also, he would ensure that the Punjab Technical University also adopts vigorous Standard Operating Procedures.

Besides constituting the Finance and Building Committees for the university, a decision was taken to release the first installment of Rs.75.00 crore to meet the immediate infrastructure requirements. The Chief Secretary decided that with a view to give stronger impetus to the setting up of new university, Board of Governors shall meet every month and the next meeting will be held in campus of the University at Bathinda.

The Principals of top ten colleges under the jurisdiction of this university were nominated as members of its Academic Council for a period of two years. The representatives of leading industries and other technocrats such as Mr.S.S.Marwaha, CEO/Punjab Biotechnology Incubator;  Mr.Prabh Dass, CEO/HMEL; Mr.Sanjeev Nagpal, a pioneer in paddy straw management technology were also unanimously included in the Academic Council. A mechanism was also finalized to involve local industries to develop courses and course curriculum as well the mid term course evaluation.

Prominent amongst those who were present included Mr.M.P.Singh, Principal Secretary Technical Education; Mr.R.K.Verma, Secretary Technical University; Dr.M.P.Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, MRSSTU; Mr.Parveen Thind, Special Secretary Finance; Mr.S.S.Bhogal, Chairman Punjab State Council, CII Northern Region; Mr.Sumanpreet Singh, Punjab State Council, CII Northern Region; Dr.S.K.Salwan, former Vice Chancellor, Punjab Technical University.
