160 non-school going children of different age groups admitted to schools by administration: Kapurthala DC

Kapurthala, August 26, 2013: Punjab Government is taking concrete steps to provide education to those Students not going to schools are being identified and admitted to various schools as per their age group.

Divulging this here today, DS Mangat, Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala said that under the Sarv Shiksha Abhian 160 children of different age groups were identified who were not going to school in the year 2013-14. He said that 20 children of the age group between 6-7 years and 22 children with special needs were got admited directly in the government schools. He added that remaining 118 non school going children of the age group between 7-14 years would be admitted to schools in the classes according to their age after providing special training to those children.

Deputy Commissioner said that survey was conducted under inclusive education for disabled scheme in across the district and every house was personally visited to identify the special requirement children in the year 2013-14. He said that as per instructions of the state headquarters special facilities would be provided to the children being identified during the survey to provide them school education. These special children would be provided facilities including required assisting tools, Bus Pass, Train Pass and Medical Certificates etc to facilitate them for providing education. 

Mangat said that a sum of Rs 61.65 lac has been approved for annual work Plan for the year 2013-14 under the Inclusive Education for disabled scheme, out of which Rs 10.95 lac has been received. He added that Rs 10 lac has been spent for providing facilities under this scheme. To provide assisting tools to the disabled children team of specialist doctors is organising special medical check-up camps in all blocks in the district including Kapurthala, Bulath, Phagwara and Sultanpur Lodhi, ‘said Mangat’.

Deputy Commissioner further added that to provide education to all, free books are distributed to all students from 1st to 8th standard and to all Schedule Caste students of 9th and 10th class. Computer books were also provided free to the students from 6th to 12th standard. Instructions as regards to supply of books to the concerned students has already been issued all the BPEO’s so that no student may be kept deprived from these books added DC Kapurthala.

Mangat said that renovation and construction work is under progress in the many schools to incur the funds received under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan. He said that renovation work is under progress in 30 schools and rooms are being constructed in 51 primary and 53 Upper Primary schools. Sanitary blocks are also being built in the 19 schools for girls out of which 18 blocks are ready to use.
