Kapurthala, September 16, 2013: Punjab Government is committed to provide quality education to students in the government schools & infrastructure of government schools is being strengthened. Under the Sarv Shiksha Abhian Rs 41.45 Crore were spent in the district to uplift the standard of government schools.

Disclosing this here today, DS Mangat Deputy Commissioner said that this grant has been spent on construction of buildings, training teachers, providing facilities to special students, Mid-Day meals and renovation work in 566 primary and 264 upper primary schools of the district.

Deputy Commissioner said that Rs 25.03 crore were spent on civil works in government schools. He said that to ultra modern facilities to the students 45 new class rooms and 49 offices of headmasters were built. He added that Rs 1.53 crore were spent on renovation works of buildings of government schools.

Magat said that Rs 5.96 crore were spent on providing salaries to teachers in schools under Sarv Shiksha Abhian where there was shortage of teachers. He said that Rs 2.22 crore were given to education providers as honorarium.

Deputy Commissioner said that training programmes were also arranged for teachers to make them aware of new techniques of teaching and Rs. 34.77 lac was spent on this programme.

Mangat said that 67 wheel chairs, 17 try cycles and other assisting tools were provided to special students as per their requirements prescribed by the doctors and 8 students were operated who were suffering from heart diseases and had holes in their hearts. He added that Physiotherapy services were given to 467 students. Deputy Commissioner said that 205 non school going children were admitted in schools after special training in the year 2012-13. He further said that schools dresses, stationary, books and sports kits were also provided to the children going under special training. Rs 2.28 crore were spent on providing free school dresses to girl students.
