World Immunology Day at PU

Chandigarh, April 27, 2018: The department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, celebrated The World Immunology Day, here today through a ‘Tea and Talk’ session on Disorders of proliferation: Analysis of novel pathways and targets by Dr.Rahul Pal. He is a senior scientist at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, who spoke on the link shared between Systemic autoimmune diseases and tumorigenesis, both of which are characterized by proliferative aberrance.
Dr. Pal gave details about the concept of autoimmunity relating it with the general public as well as the scientific community. He explained about the symptoms of autoimmune disorders and how they are similar to those in pregnancy and further connected them to cancers
Dr. Archana Bhatnagar, Chairperson, Department of Biochemistry, informed that today is the day to bring awareness about immunological research, its impact and its importance in day to day life. This day attempts to bridge the gap between growing understanding of the role of immune system and the general public, the patients, in order to improve health and well-being.
The event was attended by researchers, scientists and staff and concluded with a Q/A session that reflected their interests. Since 2005, the Day of Immunology has been celebrated as a day to gather scientists to bring immunology to the public, she added. It has been celebrated worldwide since 2007 due to its great success.
