A Workshop on Quality Initiatives in Technical Educational Institutions being inaugurated at GNDEC, Ludhiana on Thursday.

Ludhiana, December 24, 2015: Three day workshop on Quality Initiatives in Technical Educational Institutions being organized by Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana from December 24-26 was inaugurated today at the college amid enthusiastic participation from delegates spanning the length and breadth of the country. The workshop is going to focus atvarious quality initiatives required to improve the Total Quality in Technical institutions. Quality is everyone’s prerogative and everyone’s responsibility. Total quality management in technical education previews the quality of inputs in the form of students, faculty, teaching learning process and infrastructure; and the quality of outputs in the form of the value added students with a host of indicators assessing quality.
 
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor  ofMaharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University (MRSSTU), Bathinda.
 
Dr. Akshay Girdhar, Coordinator of the 3-day workshop, welcomed the participants and apprised about the contents of the workshop. He said that the various sessions of the workshop have been planned to discuss, among other things, Introduction to outcome based education, Process of defining Vision and Mission of an organization, Design of direct and indirect assessment tools (like Rubrics, Micro-level Analysis, Course Embedded Surveys etc.), Role of Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy in design of course embedded assessment tools, Demonstration of Software tools for assessment and Preparation of Self-Assessment Report/ Self- Study Report.
 
In his keynote address, Dr. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-chancellor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University, Bhathinda, highlighted the need and relevance of continuous review of technical education system, in general and quality improvement, in particular.He highlighted the need of incorporation of measures for quality assurance in technical education through accreditation. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ishar said that accreditation enables identification of the Programmes with excellence in technical education and assurance of conformity to good practices and bench marks of global requirements. 
 
In his address to the elite gathering, Dr. Manohar Singh Saini, Director, GNDEC, emphasized the relevance of this workshop to technical institutions. He also appreciated the efforts of the faculty members in organizing this workshop.
 
The workshop will include expert sessions from the coordinator Dr. Akshay Girdhar, Co-Coordinator Dr. Rupinder Singh and Dr. Sandeep Grover from YMCA, Faridabad. 53 delegates including Principals, HoD’s and Faculty members from 25 institutions like LPU, Jalandhar, YMCA, Faridabad, SVCE,PennalurTamil Nadu,PTU, Jalandhar, Deshbhagat University, MandiGobindgarh etc. are participating in the workshop.
