Chandigarh, June 5, 2019: Setting an example of sacrifice and affection, a woman from Yamunanagar saved her brother-in-law life by donating kidney. The transplant was performed by Dr Neeraj Goyal, kidney transplant surgeon at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula recently. About a year back 32-year-pold person, a postgraduate in business management had sudden deterioration in his health leading to loss of appetite, repeated vomiting and weakness. He was also suffering from uncontrolled blood pressure. He was diagnosed to have end stage kidney failure with both his kidneys found shrunken. To save his life he was started on regular dialysis. However on dialysis his condition had gone from bad to worse in quite some time, as he was not tolerating the dialysis well. His condition was further complicated when he acquired blood related hepatitis infection and was found to have weakness of his heart that was able to pump only 28% of his blood. Moreover financial burden posed by the disease condition was further complicated by the loss of job and repeated hospitalizations. Doctors advised him kidney transplant at the earliest to save his life. Patient’s father and elder brother were ready to donate their own kidney to save his life but both of them were found to be medically unfit. His mother was suffering from diabetes for a long time ruling out kidney donation from her. The wife of patients’s elder brother and is a mother of a 7-yr old boy could not see the sufferings of his younger brother-in-law. Against all odds, she came forward and showed her willingness to donate her kidney to save patient’s life. “For me, my family comes first and i can’t see my family suffering from this extreme grief. It gives me immense pleasure to see my brother-in-law returning back to his normal life, which he was deprived of since his kidney ailment was detected” said female donor. According to Dr Neeraj, patient was under the care of expert team of doctors at Alchemist hospital. First he was successfully treated for hepatitis and after stabilization of his condition, patient underwent kidney transplant. He is now leading a normal life and trying to forget the mental trauma he has been through all this time. Dr Neeraj further highlighted, one of greatest advantage of having a well established transplant program at Alchemist hospital, is the smoother and well organized process of legal documentation in Haryana state. This involves single counter clearance before conducting operations of live related kidney transplant that shortens the time involved in legal documentation and limits the sufferings of the patients.
