Wheat Procurement Gathers Speed In Ludhiana District

Ludhiana, April 25, 2015: The procurement in the mandis of Ludhiana district have gathered pace which can be known from the fact that various government agencies have procured 110734 MT of wheat from different mandis of the district in a single day. Besides this, around 2 lakh MT of wheat has already been procured in the district.

For supervising the ongoing wheat procurement in the district, Principal Secretary of Information & Technology Department Raj Kamal Chaudhry today visited the mandis in Ludhiana city, Mullanpur Dakha, Jagraon, Kaunke Kalan and some others and showed satisfaction over the arrangements made for the procurement.

While giving information, Chaudhry informed that around 2.5 lakh MT of wheat has already arrived in different mandis of the district, out of which 2 lakh MT has already been procured. He assured that along with other districts, there will be no problem related to procurement in Ludhiana also. He said that procurement is going on smoothly and it would continue till last grain is procured from the mandis.

He further informed that during the ongoing procurement season, the Punjab government has decided to purchase wheat on full MSP. He said that the Punjab government is committed to make sure no farmer suffers for the sale of his produce in the mandis.

After meeting farmers, Arhtiya’s and officials of procurement agencies in different mandis, the Principal Secretary directed the officials that they should make sure that procurement should take place without any glitch every day. He also appealed to the farmers that they should bring properly dried produce to the mandis so that it is procured easily.

Deputy Commissioner Rajat Agarwal informed that there is no shortage of Bardana (gunny bags) in Ludhiana district. After interacting with the farmers, he also showed satisfaction with the ongoing procurement.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali, Jagraon MLA S R Kler, SDM (West) KPS Mahi, SDM Jagraon Rakesh Popli, DFSC Sona Thind, besides other officials.
