West Indies Delegation On A Two-Day Visit To PAU

Ludhiana, November 3, 2015: Prof.Clement Sankat, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal of St.Augustine Campus, The University of West Indies, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago is on a two-day visit to the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to explore and discuss the scope of mutual cooperation. Today, he interacted with Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor and other senior officials of the University.

Highlighting the three major components of research, teaching and extension, Dr Dhillon said a total of 37 international students from 19 countries have been enrolled in different academic programmes of PAU. He explained in detail the organizational set-up of PAU, its genesis and evolution, landmark achievements in crop improvement, varieties released in other countries, salient crop production technologies, subsidiary occupations, protected cultivation, seed production, agro-processing technologies, Kisan Melas and other latest modules of transfer of technology, and future thrust areas. Dr Dhillon suggested the exchange of faculty and students for forging the partnership.

Prof. Sankant was impressed with the 54 years of contribution of PAU to the state, in particular and nation, in general. “This is a model which other agricultural universities should follow,” he stated, adding that he would like to move forward with this cooperation. He also discussed the agriculture scenario of West Indies with focus on food processing sector.

Those present on the occasion were Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education; Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; Dr R.K. Gumber, ADR (Crop Improvement); Dr Ashok Kumar, ADR (Food Science and Nutrition Engineering) and Dr M.S. Dhaliwal, ADR (Horticulture).
