Voters Day being celebrated at Khalsa College, Jalandhar.

Jalandhar, January 26, 2015:  As a part of series of events organised to spread awareness regarding voting, a grand district level function was organised on National Voters Day here at Lyallpur khalsa College on Sunday wherein students and staff pledged to exercise their voting right.

Organised jointly by the College Social Sensitisation Group and District Administration, the event had as its chief guest Kamal Kishore Yadav Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar.

The NCC wing of the college gave the guard of honour to the Chief Guest who in his address said that vote was the very backbone of democracy and therefore it was the duty of all the citizens to cast their votes. He urged the students and teachers to cast their vote positively and judiciously.

In his welcome address, the Principal of the college Dr. GS Samra said that not casting of one’s vote could affect the future of the nation as in a democracy even a single vote mattered. He informed the present that prior to this event, competitions such as debate, quiz, essay writing, slogan writing, rangoli, poster making and marathon race were organised as a part of Voting Right Awareness Fortnight.

On this occasion, four officials of District Administration, in addition to students who participated in different  events were honored.

The event was marked by the presence of Girish Dayalan ADC Jalandhar, Amneet Kaundal IPS.

The stage on the occasion was conducted Dr. Rashpal Sandhu.

As the event was organised on Sunday, Tuesday was announced as a holiday.
