Villages Constructing Joint Cremation Grounds To Get Rs.5 Lakh Grant

Chandigarh, May 2, 2016: The Punjab Government is leaving no stone unturned for strengthening brother-hood in villages. As a policy matter, the state government is deeming it necessary to set up common cremation grounds complete with all basic amenities, instead of separate cremation grounds in the villages of the State.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that grant of Rs.5 lakh would be given to the villages having more than one cremation ground in case the villagers agree to set up a common cremation ground. He further said that every year 5 villages per block would be selected under this scheme. He said that 735 villages would be covered each year under this scheme and an amount of Rs. 36.75 crore would be spent during the year 2016-17.
He also divulged that during the next 5 years, all the villages which would have more than one cremation ground would be covered under this project. The spokesperson further said that in majority of the villages in the state, people are wholeheartedly contributing for construction of joint cremation grounds. Under the campaign, Panchayat of Village Harigarh in Barnala District has been rewarded by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
