VIGILANCE nabs excise inspector in bribery case

Chandigarh, March 7, 2013: State Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing drive against rampant corruption today nabbed an Excise Inspector red handed accepting bribe of Rs. 30,000 in a corruption case.

Disclosing this here today, Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that Bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere in the State. In this direction, the Vigilance Bureau caught Excise Inspector Rajnish Kumar posted at Malerkotla district Sangrur, demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant Subash Chander who is wine contractor.

He added that the complainant approached the Bureau and alleged that he had had already paid Rs. 15,000 to the Excise Inspector as bribery for not fining his wine shop and now he was demanding a bribe of Rs. 30,000 for the same reason. After finding the veracity of facts a vigilance team led by Satinder Kumar, Inspector, Vigilance Bureau, Sangrur laid a trap and the accused was nabbed red handed in the presence of two government officials as witnesses.

The tainted money was recovered from him.

In this regard a vigilance case under under Sections 7, 13 (1) read with 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Patiala.

Further investigation is in progress.
