VIGILANCE NABS 14 OFFICIALS IN BRIBERY CASES

REGISTERS 6 VIGILANCE ENQUIRIES TO PROBE CORRUPTION CHARGES

Chandigarh, March 26, 2018: State Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in public life has been able to nab 14 officials red handed accepting bribes in 11 different trap cases during the last month which includes 5 police personnel, 5 revenue officials and 4 belonging to other departments.

Disclosing this, chief director-cum-ADGP vigilance bureau Punjab B.K. Uppal said the VB has put up its best efforts to stamp out corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the period. In this direction, the vigilance officers have ensured that suspect did not escape judicial punishment in the various courts in the State, he added.

He informed that the bureau had submitted challans of ten vigilance cases in various special courts in February. Apart from this, six vigilance enquires have also been registered to probe into the allegations against public servants.

Giving more details, he informed that special courts have decided seven bribery cases filed and contested by the bureau during last month. Harinder Singh senior assistant of treasury office Punjab along with Dev Raj, Kuldeep Singh and Bant Singh (all private persons) were convicted and sentenced with 7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 6.4 lac and 5.4 lac each by additional sessions judge SAS Nagar.

In another case Baldev Singh, junior assistant in district treasury office Ludhiana was sentenced with 2 months imprisonment and fine of Rs. 25,000 by additional sessions judge Ludhiana. Surinder Kumar, clerk of MC Patiala was sentenced with 4 year imprisonment and fine of Rs. 1.5 lac by additional sessions judge Patiala. Manjinder Singh clerk of cooperative bank, Mehma Sarja in Bathinda district was sentenced with 7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 42,75,000 by additional sessions judge Bathinda.

Likewise Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu chairman Punjab Public Service Commission was sentenced with 7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 75 lac by additional sessions judge SAS Nagar. Vinay Kumar, Clerk of MC Bathinda was sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000 by additional sessions judge Bathinda and Sarwan Singh secretary cooperative societies Moga was sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000 by additional sessions judge Moga.
