FOR GOOD RATES, USE OF PESTICIDES/CHEMICALS SHOULD BE USED IN CONSULTATION WITH AGRI EXPERTS

Ludhiana, August 30, 2018: The Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has issued an advisory to the basmati farmers to not use some pesticides so that the quality of their produce is maintained and they can be exported to foreign countries on high prices.

Chief Agriculture Officer, Ludhiana Dr Paramjit Singh Brar informed that it has been observed that the traces of Acephate, Carbendazim, Thiamethoxam, Triazophos and Tricyclazole are being found in large amount in basmati crop. He said that due to this, the farmers are facing problem in exporting the crop to foreign countries. Due to which the farmers might face problems in getting proper price of their produce.

Under the Mission Tandrust Punjab, the Department has advised the basmati farmers to not use the above mentioned pesticides/chemicals, and instead, if they face any problem, they should consult the agriculture experts of their respective areas and use some other pesticides/chemicals. He said that this should be done so that the farmers get good price of their produce.

He further said that the use of pesticides/chemicals should be completely avoided in last three to four weeks before the crop is ready, because if the pesticides/chemicals are used during this time, their traces are left on the crop, and the crop does not get proper price in international market.

For further information, the farmers can contact the Chief Agriculture Officer Ludhiana at phone number 9417137330, between 6 am to 10 pm at Farmers Call Centre Toll Free Number 18001801551.
