Vicky Mehta of Congress gets elected President to MC Khanna

Khanna, March17, 2015: A meeting of newly elected municipal councillors (MCs) of MC Khanna was held at MC office Khanna in which Vicky Mehta of Congress was elected President and Vijay Sharma of PPP was elected as vice president of MC Khanna. 

Vijay Sharma was supported by the Congress.

A total of 30 MCs out of 33 participated in this election meeting.

Vicky Mehta secured 17 votes and he was declared elected as President.  The name of Vicky Mehta was proposed by Congress MC Gurmeet Kaur and he was declared elected by securing 17 votes although Gurminder Singh Lali who was front runner for this post walked out of meeting along with two other councillors including his wife and his supporter Neeta. SAD–BJP was also seen as divided house as the whip issued by Akali Dal leaders failed to unite them. Although Iqbal Singh Channi was termed for the post but in the last moment he forwarded the name of Sukhdev Singh who could win only 9 votes as one BJP and 2 SAD councillors did not vote in party favour. 

After this win Congress President and Vice President along with supporters take out a procession in the City and thanked the peoples for this win.

It is mentioned here that Congress had secured 14 seats while one was won with its support. SAD- BJP had secured 11 seats and 8 members were elected as Independents.
