New Delhi, July 23, 2016: The USA UnivQuest Team India currently participating at the World Schools Debating Championship 2016 (WSDC), Stuttgart in Germany has had an encouraging start to the Championship. WSDC 2016 has around 60 teams participating in the biggest and most prestigious Debating Tournament for school children across the world.

On the first day of the competitive events, in round one Team India faced Team Turkey in a prepared debate, the topic being “This House believes that, after meeting their basic needs, individuals have a moral responsibility to donate their wealth towards poverty alleviation. India as team proposition, won the debate on a unanimous vote of the panel of judges.

In the second round of debate on the same day, India faced off against the hosts Germany in an impromptu round of debating where the topic was “The House believes that film and television award shows should abolish award categories that are separated by gender”. Once again, Team India, this time opposing the motion, won on a unanimous decision of the panel of judges.

At the end of day one of debating, Team India was sitting pretty at the top of the table along with 2 other countries, being the only teams to have won both debates by a unanimous choice of the judges.

On day two of the debate competition, Round 3, India was able to successfully propose the motion "The House would require democratic states to hold a national referendum to ratify any free trade agreements. Team India won against Philippines.

In the fourth round of debate, India faced off against South Korea and successfully opposed the topic "The house would televise criminal trials".

According to Mr Arindam Mukherjee, Team Manager of the Indian delegation at WSDC 2016, “with this, Team India has managed to maintain an all win record at the competition.”

Team India is now preparing for the next set of 4 rounds in which they will debate against South Africa, Kuwait, Taiwan and Pakistan on July 24 and July 25, 2016.
