Chandigarh, June 23, 2016: The Department of Evening Studies-Multi Disciplinary Research Centre (DES-MDRC) founded in 1961, provides a unique opportunity of learning through interactive teaching to the in-service and self-employed young men and women. It is a socially significant institution that imparts valuable instructions to enable them to enhance their career prospects. However, female candidates are not required to submit certificate of employment.
Like all other teaching departments of the University, DES-MDRC follows the UGC and Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh norms for regulating and administrating the teaching and research. Our students are also entitled to use facilities like Wi-Fi, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Auditorium, Main Library, Sports etc. and participate in University’s Youth Festival, Inter-College/University sports, NCC/NSS etc. Hostel Facilities are made available to girl students strictly on merit basis.

The Department faculty provides supervisory facility/research guidance to the eligible candidates for research leading to Ph.D Degree in the subjects as English, Economics, History, Punjabi, Political Science.
Our students secured first position (Gold Medal) in the University in M.A. Punjabi in 2013-14 and M.A. Economics in 2014-15.
Students in sports bagged Overall Sports Champion 2013-14, 2014-15 & 2015-16 Inter-College ‘C’ Division Panjab University, Chandigarh. Our Department produced international players. One of our students was selected for the Inter-University Chess Championship 2015-16.
Department also promotes the artistic talent of the students. Our students participated in the enactment of Balwant Gargi’s play ‘Dhooni Di Agg’.
The students are kept informed through SMS about their progress at different levels and Department also provides Online Fee Payment facility to the students. The Departmental Library is fully air-conditioned and digitized. It is networked with the Main A.C. Joshi Library and other Departmental Libraries of the campus through SLIM software.
The admissions to B.A./B.Com./M.A. Classes at the Department of Evening Studies – MDRC are done online. Admission seekers for B.A. Ist semester are required to visit the official website i.e. www.admissionsevening.puchd.ac.in. For admission to M.A. (English, Political Science, Economics, History and Punjabi) Ist Semester, students are required to fill online admission form by visiting the official website of Panjab University i.e. www.pgadmissions.puchd.ac.in. For B.Com. Ist semester the filling up of the admission forms through centralized process has been closed.
The last date of online filling of the admission form and submission of its hardcopy along with other requisite documents (including the certificate of employment/self-employment) in the office of the Department of Evening Studies – MDRC is June 30, 2016. Admissions are on All-India basis, no U.T. Quota.
Students of sports category are admitted through Directorate of Sports.
The admission criteria are defined in the “Handbook of Information 2016-17” available at www.puchd.ac.in.
