Chandigarh, April 21, 2015: Monday evening was a big time for the students of University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh as they find internationally renowned Celebrity Chef Vikas Khanna as one of the guests for their Annual Theme Dinner. At this occasion Chef Vikas Khanna also released his latest book titled Shaken & Stirred, which comprises of 101 innovative mock tails.

At this occasion PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun Grover honoured Chef Vikas Khanna with Prayatan Rattan award for his invaluable contribution towards global hospitality and tourism industry by promoting Indian cuisines. Vikas Khanna dedicated this award to his mother, who was also accompanying him. Department also honored Chef Navdeep Sharma and Chef Arti Thapa during the function. Cooking was always a stress buster for me and I have spent a good time in kitchen experimenting with cuisines for my better half; revealed Prof. Grover.

In this theme dinner final year students of Hotel Management showcased their culinary and décor skills on the theme ‘Pirates of the World’. The students have prepared selected cuisines from Mediterranean, Scandinavian, Caribbean and African countries. To celebrate the occasion theme based décor of the UIHTM restaurant Green Ivy was done by the students, which reflects a celebration party by pirates after docking their ship on the shore after the successful loot. Chef Vikas Khanna took a round of the kitchen lab and interacted with the budding chefs and gave them mantras for success.

Earlier in the day a Mock tail competition was also organised at ICSSR hall where the participants from 13 Hotel Management institutes of the region participated. The team from CIHM, Chandigarh and UIHTM, PU shared the first position. The competition was adjudged by the Chef Vikas and Anmol Luthra and winners were given a chance to have their dinner with celebrity Chef.

Director UIHTM Prof. Meenakshi Malhotra told that the students invited the guests from tourism and hospitality industry along with academicians from various universities and colleges as well. Around 120 noted personalities from industry and academia attended the theme dinner event. She appraised the efforts of the students for making the event grand success. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
