The Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal paying tributes to the departed religious leader in mammoth gathering of people from different walks of life at Namhari Darbar at Bhaini Sahib, near Ludhiana, on Sunday.

Bhaini Sahib (Ludhiana), December 23, 2012: Terming the death of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh as a great loss to the country, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that in the death of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh the nation has lost a great spiritual ambassador and an eminent social reformer.

Paying tributes to the departed religious leader in mammoth gathering of people from different walks of life at Namhari Darbar here today, the Chief Minister recalled the valuable services rendered by Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh Ji in ushering an era of communal harmony, brotherhood, peace and amity in the country in general and the state in particular.

Badal said that Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh perpetuated the great legacy of Satguru Sri Ram Singh Ji the founder of Naamdhari sect, who had preached the service of humanity and meditation as the ultimate path of salvation. He said that Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh Ji was a great spiritual ambassador and a renowned social reformer who played a proactive role in eradicating social evils like female foeticide, dowry and drug addiction from the society.

The Chief Minister further said that Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh would be remembered as one of the most revered religious personalities in the annals of history who always acted, as a lighthouse to guide the destiny of mankind in the present materialistic society by inspiring the people to tread on the path of spirituality. Describing Satguru Jagjit Singh as an institution in himself, Badal said that he was known and highly respected amongst the people for his philanthropic works in the field of education and health. He said that apart from his contribution in social and religious fields Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh played a vanguard role in popularizing the concept of organic farming of vegetables and fruits besides promoting floriculture.

The Chief Minister also remembered Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh as a great exponent of classical music and a lover of sports. He said that the concerted efforts made by Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh for the promotion of classical music and sports especially the Hockey are really laudable.  

The Chief Minister reiterated that in death of Satguru Sri Jagjit Singh a void has been created in the socio-religious sphere which was difficult to be filled in near future. He also remembered the immense contribution made by the Namdhari sect during the freedom struggle of India tofree the country from the yoke of British imperialism.

On this occasion a condolence messages of Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh and Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari has also been read out.
