TRAINING COURSE ON PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT BEGINS AT PAU

Ludhiana, November 21, 2016: A five-day training course on “Product Development Using Traditional Embroideries” began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Rural women from different parts of Punjab are participating in the course, being coordinated by the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU.

Giving details, Dr (Mrs) Rupinder Kaur, Course Coordinator, said that on the first day, PAU home science experts highlighted the importance of traditional embroideries in contemporary product development. Besides, experts would give demonstrations on the embroidery of phulkari, dasuti and chope of Punjab; kasuti of Karnataka; chikankari of Uttar Pradesh; and herringbone, mirror and appliqué work of Gujarat, Kutch and Kathiawar, she told. In addition, experts would demonstrate Sindhi embroidery; preparation of stationary items (file covers, bookmarks and pen holders); and preparation of household items (tray covers, glass holders, etc.), she said. The course is being technically coordinated by the home science experts, Dr (Mrs) H.K. Saggu and Dr (Mrs) Narinderjit Kaur. The resource persons include Dr (Mrs) Surbhi Mahajan, Dr (Mrs) K.K. Brar, Dr (Mrs) H.K. Saini and Ms Nishi from the College of Home Science, PAU.
