Training Course On Drip Irrigation Concludes At PAU

Ludhiana, August 21, 2015: A five-day training programme on “Drip Irrigation, Fertigation and Protected Cultivation” concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The Precision Farming Development Center (PFDC), Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU, organized the course, wherein a total of 35 farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh participated.
In the concluding session, Dr P.P.S Lubana, Soil and Water Engineering expert, said that drip irrigation and fertigation were one of the best resource conservation technologies available for the farmers.
Dr Rakesh Sharda, Principal Investigator, PFDC informed that this course was organized on the request of the farmers. Further, he stated that adoption of drip irrigation system and protected cultivation would lead Punjab towards prosperity.
During the training programme, participants were imparted practical know- how about drip irrigation, fertigation, and polyhouse cultivation of various crops. Besides, they were made aware of the technologies related to drip and fertigation such as installation and maintenance of drip irrigation system, successful cultivation of fruits and vegetable crops, and their irrigation scheduling using micro irrigation. They were also provided training in design and construction of poly houses, cultivation of various vegetable crops and flowers, protection technologies, green house management, and post harvest handling and marketing of fruits and vegetables.
