Chandigarh, July 28, 2015: Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal has issued instructions to the Welfare department to resolve issues pertaining to the scholarships being provided to the SC students immediately besides timely disbursement of scholarship amounts. 

These directions were issued in a high level meeting presided over by Chief Minister while Chief Parliamentary Secretary Welfare Mr. Pawan Kumar Tinu, CPS Local Bodies Mr. Som Parkash accompanied by other SC MLAs and officers of welfare department were also present. 

Disclosing this here today, Mr. Pawan Kumar Tinu and Mr. Som Parkash said that the Chief Minister issued directions to the Secretary Welfare of SC, Mr. Kirpa Shankar Saroj and director Welfare Ms. Alakhnanda Dayal to ensure proper procedure being adopted in the disbursement of the financial aid to eligible SC students.The leaders who called on the Chief Minister expressed their gratitude to him for having taken prompt action in handling such issued benefitting lakhs of SC students.

Mr. Tinu apprised the Chief Minister of irregularities in the process of extending scholarships to the SC students by some institutes. He said that the procedure to provide post-matric scholarships should be simplified and the regularity must be ensured so that the timely benefit could reach to the beneficiaries.

Taking cognizance of a few private institutes taking non-refundable fees from the SC students, Mr. Tinu said that it should be made mandatory to inform the concerned heads of the departments so that the scholarship amount could be directly credited to the accounts of the SC students in time.

Urging the Chief Minister to take immediate corrective measures to ensure that the eligible candidate get the scholarships, Mr. Som Parkash said that a comprehensive strategy should be evolved to facilitate the under privileged students so that the financial scarcity should not hamper their studies. He also urged the chief minister to simplify the procedure of providing education loan to the SC students and ensure benefits to more than 2.75 lakh SC students across the state.       

Both the leaders expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister Mr. Badal for having waived off the loan amount of Rs. 11 Crore due with the families of the deceased debtors, who were unable to pay back the loan amount due to their poor financial status.
