Teej Festival at Guru Nanak Girls College, Ludhiana
Ludhiana, August 20, 2018: It was a festive atmosphere at Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana as the staff and the students dressed in traditional dresses, celebrated the festival of Teej on Monday. Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal enlightened the students on socio – economic importance of Teej and stressed on the need to remain in touch with the culture of Punjab and to preserve it. The variety of stalls including Bangles, Jewellery, Purses, Cosmetics and Mehndi made the function look more natural. Students enjoyed eating traditional sweets like “Kheer” and “Malpoorah. Various traditional articles like Bagh, Phulkari, Charkha, Pakhis, Chhaj, Daris were also displayed on the stalls. The campus displayed a unique view of its Punjabi culture and rich heritage. Colourfully dressed girls had a gala time on specially installed ‘Peengh’ singing song on Teej and Sawan. Various competitions including Giddha, Ms. Punjaban, Mehndi, Hair style (Middian Gundana) were organized. The results of various competitions as follows: The Giddha performance by Arts was adjudged to be the best and second position bagged by Commerce stream and the third position was secured by Science .Streams In Mehndi competition Harpreet Kaur (M.Sc.-I)(Maths) was declared in first Pallavi Bhala (B.Sc.-I) was declared second and Aashima (B.Sc.-I) won third prize. In traditional Punjabi Hair styling contest the first prize was won by Inderpreet Kaur (M.Sc.-I)(FD) and second and third prize by Janvi Goswami (M.Sc.-I)(FD) and Ankita (B.Sc.-I)(FD) respectively. Harsimran Kaur of M.Sc.-I(Physics) was declared Ms. Punjaban and Bandhanjot Kaur (B.Sc.-III) and Rooparman Kaur (B.Sc.-III)(Biotech) was the first and second runner up respectively. Rajandeep Kaur (Arts) was declared Giddhian di Rani. Sandeep Kaur (BBA-III) won the prize for the best traditional Punjabi dress. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Mahal gave away the prizes to the winners and hoped that spirit of joy which has been initiated with this occasion shall continue to exist throughout the session.
