Swachhta hi seva campaign turns into mass movement in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, October 2, 2019: With a total participation of 3800 volunteers, Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Father of the turned into a mass movement in Ferozepur district as around 40 ton of garbage was collected from the 40 wards of the city and cant area on Wednesday. The drive was kicked off by MLA Parminder Singh Pinki and Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind jointly, where volunteers worked constantly for three hours 6 to 9 am with cleaning 100 kilometers of roads and streets falling in 39 wards of the district. Congratulating on the success of this campaign, MLA Parminder Singh Pinky and Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind thanked the people of the city and hailed the efforts and dedication of the volunteers. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind announced a ban on plastic carry bags and single-use plastic in the city and issued instructions to city council officials to ensure strict action in the matter. Amid the cleanliness drive, Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind accompanied MLA Parminder Singh Pinky rode on a Golf Car and set out on a city tour. The two met intermittently cleaning volunteers along the way, appreciating and encouraging them to join hands with the district administration as part of the campaign. Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind said that the campaign was attended by volunteers from 35 schools, 4 colleges, and 40 social service organizations and 55 government departments. He said the success of the campaign has been possible only with the cooperation of one and all. MLA Parminder Singh Pinky while interacting with the media said that the city of Ferozepur is continuously moving forward. A lot of work has been done on parks, greenery, and cleanliness here. He said that 20 new garden gyms have been passed for the city of Ferozepur, information about which has been received by the deputy commissioner through a video conference with the Chief Secretary. He further added that with the coming of all these new garden gyms, the picture of Ferozepur city will change. Several officials including DCM Group of Schools CEO Anirudh Gupta, Red Cross Society Secretary Ashok Bahl, Municipal Council EO Charanjit Sharma were present on the occasion.
