Surjit Hockey Society releases sports calendar for year 2014-15

Main emphasis on the training of the sub-junior and junior wing players
Jalandhar, July 13, 2014:  Budding hockey players in sub-junior and junior wings would be trained at special coaching camps, said Kamal Kishore Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, who is also President of the Surjit Hockey Society along with Padmashree & Olympian Pargat Singh, Working President of the Surjit Hockey Society while releasing the sports calendar of the society.
Kamal Kishore Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar mainly laid emphasis on the training of the sub-junior and junior wing players. As per the sports calendar, U-14 sub-junior hockey coaching camp for girls would be held from July 17 to 30, 2014 at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden, and U-17 junior hockey coaching camp for boys would be held from July 17 to 30, 2014 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium. Senior hockey coaching camp for girls would be held from July 20 to 30 at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar       
According to Pargat Singh, Working President & former Captain of the Indian Hockey team and MLA from Jalandhar Cantt that the first general house meeting of the society would be held in the second week of August ;  a hockey match of girls between International Girls-XI and Punjab Girls-XI would be held on August 29 on National Sports Day in the sweet memory of Major Dhaian Chand at Surjit Hockey Stadium.
There will be Surjit Pre-Qualify Hockey Tournament from October 2 to 5 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar where 12 teams participate and the winner team will qualify for the main tournament. Similarly, the annual 31st edition of the Surjit Hockey tournament would be held from October 29 to November 7 whereas the tournament in women section will be played simultaneously from October 13 to November, 2014 at the same venue. The cultural programme would be held on November 7 and November 6 will be complete rest day . There will be a Hockey Seminar of Umpires on November 5.
Distribution of scholarships in the field of education in the third week of November,2014 while function to distribute the sports kits to the needy players would be held in fourth week of December.  A function in the memory of Olympian Surjit Singh Randhawa would be held on February 7, 2015 at Hans Raj Stadium.
Surjit Vetran Hockey tournament for Mixed Men & Women will be held in 2nd week of January 2015 at Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar. The general body meeting of the Society will be held in the 4rd week of March, 2015,  Pargat Singh added.
