SAS Nagar (Mohali), August 29, 2012: The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has okayed the extension plant of Mullanpur paving the way for developing this area as magnet for futuristic development.

Presiding over a meeting of Punjab Urban Development Authority late last evening, Badal said that Mullanpur Township has to be developed as a futuristic township with state-of-the-art facilities. He said that the road grid of the Mullanpur city has to be in total synchronization with master plan and road network should be planned keeping in view the pressure of development for next 50 years. He said that it was imperative that medi-city and edu-city to be developed in the vicinity of Mullanpur should attract world class hospitals and universities in their campus. He said that edu-city has to be developed on the pattern of Oxford University.

Cautioning about mushrooming of unauthorized or non-sanctioned colonies in the Mullanpur planned area, Badal said that it was imperative for the authorities to check the growth of un-authorized construction with stern hand. He said that no colonizer should be allowed to start construction before getting his plan sanctioned from the authorities and it was for GMADA to ensure that every colony should provide world class road infrastructure besides under ground water and sewerage network. He said that norms for checking facilities should be strictly adhered while monitoring the work of private colonies.

Asking GMADA to explore the possibility of setting up new township near Zirakpur and Derabassi, Badal said that GMADA has to plan for challenges of future to check the mushrooming of unauthorized colonies. He said that we have to plan for future as with the growing need for housing we have to carve out new townships with ultra modern facilities.

Badal asked PUDA to put up conceptual plans for extension plans for Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Bathinda at the earliest so that people could be provided houses at reasonable rates.

Prominent amongst those who participated in the meeting included Ajoy Sinha, Chief Administrator GMADA,  Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Chief Administrator PUDA, Manjit Brar, Additional Chief Administrator GMADA, Ajay Kumar Mahajan, Special Principal Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister.
