Zirakpur, October 26, 2018: The senior wing of Dikshant International School, Zirakpur staged their 17th Annual Day Function at Dikshant Global School campus on VIP Road. Almost 300 students participated in a musical fable 'The Land of Cards' (Tasher Desh), written by Rabindranath Tagore. The play was directed by Mr. Gursharan Singh, former Dean of activities, The Doon School, Dehradoon.

“We picked up the play because the story is applicable to any society and to every generation. Even though it was written long ago, still it's very contemporary. There is a lot for students to learn. In the story, people follow rules and regulations like robots, there is rigidity, an orthodox view. It is the ignorance that keeps people from understanding what they do, and from using their free will.", Said Mr. Mitul Dikshit, Chairman , Dikshant School.

The play was a perfect combination of a powerful and moving story, well-coordinated direction of Mr. Gursharan Singh and an outstanding live rendition by the cast, who brilliantly showcased their talents, through their theatrical performances, live music and dances.

The story takes a satirical look at tyranny and regimentation and celebrates freedom of speech, thoughts, and deeds. In the story, the charms of the palace leave the prince indifferent, while the mysterious unknown attracts him to the land beyond the oceans that surround his kingdom. A voyage, and a shipwreck, bring the prince and a friend to the Land of Cards, where political and social customs are a religion, society is demarcated by colour and creed, and disobedience is sin. To that oppressive environment, the voyagers bring songs of joy, life and hope. The story unfolds showing how both of them bring about an air of liberation and rebellion, making the cards revolt and eventually break the shackles of tyranny.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Gursharan Singh has an enviable background. Apart from having scored music for television and radio, he has produced choir and orchestra ensemble’s for some of India’s best schools -- Doon School (Dehradun), Mayo College Girls , Mayoor School (Ajmer) and many others including Dikshant International school .

The programme embarked with a Saraswati Vanada, followed by auspicious lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to the founder of the school Late Shri O. N. Dikshit. A Prize Distribution Ceremony was held, in which the achievements of the school during the session were highlighted. Students and faculty members were awarded for their extraordinary performance in academics and co-curricular activities during the last academic year.
