New Delhi, April 3, 2017: With inauguration of India’s longest tunnel, spanning 9 kilometres, the Chenani – Nashri or Patnitop Tunnel -- Sterling and Wilson has reaffirmed its position as a reliable and capable partner in the Electrical EPC space -- offering advanced scale, technology and expertise in electrification and substation for infrastructure projects. The said tunnel is developed by IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd. (ITNL). Sterling and Wilson, an EPC company with global presence, is part of the distinguished Shapoorji Pallonji Group and has been involved in the design, built, turn-key solutions for electrical 11 kV substation, distribution and ancillary works for the four-lane tunnel, which connects Chenani to Nashri across section of NH-1A. Opening of this tunnel is expected to impact lives of over 1.22 Crore people in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing Kashmir closer to the rest of the country. The stated project is an engineering marvel, recognised as a national asset and will be inaugurated today by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi.
Sterling and Wilson has completed the electrification and cabling for fully-integrated control systems – such as communications, power supply, incident detection, SOS call box and fire-fighting. The company has designed and installed a two-tier illumination system, which will be operational around the clock for 365 days a year, with provision for variable frequency drives for ventilation systems.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bikesh Ogra - President, Sterling & Wilson said, “It is indeed an honour and privilege to be part of this project. Given the scale and at times very daunting and onerous weather conditions, there were challenges in carrying out execution of works. Successful completion of the project adds to our repute and repertoire, in India and abroad.”
