Hyderabad, April 29, 2016: Hyderabad’s Start Up, SportsCult which is committed to develop sports cultures in India is organising a Junior Tennis League for Under 10,12 and 14 for boys and girls singles. There will be a total six events.
The competitions will be held at SportsCult academies – 1 in each of the 4-5 academies we have in Hyderabad so that we cover multiple locations and makes it easier for people in different parts of the city informed Bobby Reddy, MD & CEO Sports Cult who left cosy IT job of 21years to start SportsCult.
The inaugural tournament in this series will be held at the SportsCult Tennis Academy in Miyapur (on High Tension Line Road, HUDA Mayuri Nagar Layout) on 7th and 8th May 2016 at 8.30 AM.
The competitions will be held in the weekends on Saturday and Sunday, Bobby Reddy said. Based on the success of this, we could extend this to other cities, to other age groups (like Under-8) and also to other sports.
We have been coaching kids in Tennis for some time now and we realise that a lot of kids (and their parents) drop the sport as there are no opportunities for kids at the early learning stage to have formal competitions, which act as major motivating factor for the kids (and parents) to go on informed Bobby Reddy
There are state level and All India level tournaments but to reach that level, the kids take some time – between 2-3 years and not all kids may sustain the sport that long, added Bobby Reddy.
Adding further, Bobby said, this was the gap we like to bridge with this Tennis League targeted mainly at kids in their early learning stages (6 months – 3 years). We also realise that in early stages, kids will take each loss very seriously and hence we are adopting the round robin format as opposed to the usual knock-out format of a typical Tennis Tournament – so that each kids gets to play a minimum of 3 matches, which also increases the chances of each one winning something. We also want to keep as a year long league holding a total of 9 competitions in the year and the kids can accumulate points through the year and get a chance to have improved competition as their performance improves.
Through this league, we would like to encourage and motivate the young learners to keep with the sport and get better at it and accelerate their journey towards playing higher level tournaments, he added.
