Chandigarh, November 16, 2016: Senior Lecturer at University of The Sunshine Coast (Australia) Marcus Bussey today delivered a Special Lecture on the topic of ‘Philosophy of Neo-humanism’ at the department of Evening Studies Auditorium, Panjab University (PU).
The Special Lecture was organized by PU Department of Sanskrit. PU Vice Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover was the Chief Guest and Dr. Shambhu Shivanand presided over the lecture. Scholars from Germany, USA, Malaysia also participated in the lecture. A large number of audience participated in Post-lecture questions.
In his lecture, Marcus Bussey propounded that when the underlying spirit of humanism is extended to everything (animate and inanimate) in this universe, it is designated this as Neohumanism. The Neohumanism elevates humanism to universalism,
love for all created beings of this universe. Simple ideas are often the most powerful. This is certainly the case with Neohumanism, rooted in the ancient yogic perception that all existence is bound together, that we are all interconnected.
Neohumanism transcends a limited and deeply wounded humanism with a holistic reconceptualisation of what it is to be human, he added.
Marcus Bussey said that Neohumanism is a process of becoming consciously, self consciously, human. Essentially it is a term both general and specific covering as it does all the ‘holisms’ that have sprung up in the humanities, sciences and social movements in recent decades. Neohumanism offers a strong critique of nationalism, sexism, specism, capitalism and racism, he further added.
In his Presidential remarks, Dr. Shambhu Shivanand explained the philosophical parlances in a simple language.
PU VC Prof. Arun K. Grover stressed on the need to promote oriental learning, especially Sanskrit, for the good research-works in all disciplines-Science, Arts, Humanities etc. He referred to the historic oriental college at Lahore, and exhorted the modern Sanskritists to carry out research works based on Sanskrit.
Earlier, Chairperson, PU Sanskrit Department, Prof. Shankarji Jha introduced the subject-matter to the audience.
