Special lecture-cum-dialogue on book programme organized by department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies

Chandigarh, August 6, 2019: Today, a special lecture on ‘Folkloristical Analysis on Guru Nanak Bani’ was organized by the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Panjab University, which was delivered by an eminent scholar Professor Gurmeet Singh former Chairman of Department Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar.

The scholars identified folkloristical elements in the Bani of Guru Nanak Dev Ji which have been used by transforming the same as a poetic method to communicate the message of Guru to become a ‘Sachiar’. Dr. Gurmeet Singh gave examples of the poetic genres of Baramah, Alahunian, Pahre, Aarti etc. He explained how Gurus had rejected the superstitions, outward showoff of bhakti and hedgmony of the religious priests.

At this occasion a dialogue on the book ‘Channan Di Pairh’ written by Shri Manmohan Daon Sahitya Academy Writer was also organized. Professor I.D Gaur explained the meaning of the title of the book as Chnnan is enlightment. He described the deep knowledge of Guru Nanak as Parkash of inner self. Shri Daou recited many poems from his book as Maie Daultan Daie, Nanki noorani, Vaiein naal guftagoo, Shabad te rabab, Channan Di Pairh and Channan Da wak which were highly appreciated by audience. At this time a book Guru Nanak Drishti: Ek Adhian written by Daljeet Kaur Daou was released by Professor Gurmeet Singh and Professor Gaur. Many questions were asked by research scholars from the speakers.

At the end, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur thanked all the audience.
