Sound professional training back-bone of operational efficacy: DGP

Phillaur, August 25: Sumesh Singh Saini, Director General of Police, Punjab visited Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur to discuss professional police training related priorities with the officers of the Academy and the Commandants of all the five other police recruits training centers of the state police, who participated in an especially convened high-level meeting of all the head of police training institutions of the state.         

After an elaborate interaction with the heads of the police training institution during which all the training-related issues were discussed thread-bare, Saini expressed the view that sound professional training is the back-bone of operational efficacy and no effort will be spared to fine-tune and strengthen the professional police training process to the utmost extent.

Elaborating his vision for professional training, Saini stated that the training process must aim at the toughening-up of mental and physical faculties of the individual police officer to the maximum possible extent so as to fully enable him to adequately measure up to the onerous professional challenges with full measure of confidence and expertise. Reflecting on the vital role of discipline in day to day police functioning, Sh. Saini expressed the view that the core attributes of the concept of discipline are fairness, objectivity and scrupulous adherence to ethical code of conduct. He urged all the trainers to inculcate this spirit of discipline amongst all the trainee police officers so that they may be able render quality service to the people in the real sense of the term.

Discussing the issues related to the ongoing capacity building process being vigorously pursued by the Punjab Police, the DGP made his policy in this regard clear by declaring  that the basic requirements of the cutting edge level police functionaries have to be addressed to as a matter of first and foremost priority before contemplating the add-ons at a secondary stage, so as to ensure that all the basic requirements of the NGOs and the ORs are adequately met with prior to moving ahead in the direction of further improvements in this regard.

Expressing his general satisfaction on the overall training standards of the Punjab Police , Saini said that progressive amalgamation and integration of the human resources training centers with the field units is essential to fine-tune the training inputs and derive reciprocal advantage by putting together theoretical and pragmatic aspects of professional police working.

S.K.Sharma, Additional DGP Human Resource Development, Community Policing and Law & Order, while giving a general overview of the overall professional training scenario in the state stressed the need for making police training for all the ranks of police hierarchy more focused purpose-specific and better attuned to the prevailing professional realism. He outlined the initiatives taken in this direction in the recent past and urged all of officer present on this occasion to strive hard for the attainment of better results on this front.

Ten officers and jawans working in different police training institutions were decorated by the DGP with the DGP’s Commendation Discs for their laudable contribution in improving the overall professional police training standards. Ishwar Chandar Sharma, IPS, IGP-cum-Additional Director Punjab Police Academy and R. C. Sethi, IGP, Training Punjab was also present on this occasion and participated in the deliberations. The DGP during his round of the Academy in the evening observed and assessed different training activities in the PPA and expressed happiness at the overall state of affairs in the Academy.
