New Delhi/Ludhiana, July 1, 2016: Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi president Paramjit Singh Sarna has appointed Dr S.P.Singh, former vice-chancellor of the Guru Nanak Dev University, and S.Gurtej Singh, professor of Sikhism and retired IAS, as heads of a committee to study the draft of the New Education Policy released by the Modi government.
"We don't know if the Badal party is at all bothered about this proposed education policy despite controlling Sikh educational institutions in Delhi and Punjab. But we are concerned. Attempts have been made in the past to saffronise education and paint Sikh history with the Sangh brush. The two scholars will study the draft in detail," S. Sarna said.
"If we find any nefarious design to tamper with the original Sikh history, we will not allow adoption of this policy," he added.
It's a very serious issue concerning what our children will be taught at schools.
The government is also planning a major project aimed at rewriting history at the village level. All these high-budget schemes have to be observed minutely in order for us to ensure our unique history doesn't get diluted by vested interests.
