Ludhiana, February 10, 2016: The Punjab government would be organizing Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games from February 14-19, 2016 in seven cities of the state, out of which four events would be held in Ludhiana. Around 1850 sportspersons would be participating in four events at Ludhiana, and other events would be held at Patiala, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Ajitgarh and Sangrur.
While addressing a press conference, Mr Rahul Gupta, Director (Sports) Punjab, informed that these games are being organized with the sole aim of nurturing sporting talent amongst youth. He said that 22 different sports events would be organized during these games, in which more than 7000 sportspersons from the state would participate. He said that all arrangements related to their boarding, lodging, refreshments and others have been made.
He said that sportspersons born after January 1, 1990 would participate in these games. He said that in Ludhiana, events of Handball, Basketball, Cycling and Football would be held in Ludhiana, in which 1000 boys and 850 girls would participate. He said that the games would be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Tota Singh at 11 am on February 14, while the closing ceremony would be held on February 19 in which chief guest would be Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon while Ludhiana (East) MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon would be the guest of honour.
Mr Rahul Gupta stated that Punjab government would award cash prizes worth Rs 3 crore to the sportspersons during these games and the total budget of this sporting event is Rs 7.5 crore. He said that 600 each gold, silver and bronze medals would be given to the winning sportspersons. The winner of gold medal would be given cash prize of Rs 25,000, silver medalist would get Rs 17,000 and bronze medalist would get Rs 12,000.
