SEVERAL PERSONS BOOKED BY POLICE IN FEROZEPUR IN CONNECTION WITH POLL RELATED VIOLENCE

Ferozepur, December 31, 2018: Ten persons have been booked by name besides 15-20 unidentified persons have been booked by the police in connection with poll violence which took place at Village Lakhmir ke Uthar in Mamdot block yesterday. It is pertinent to mention here that some unidentified persons had set a ballot box on fire and later while they were fleecing from the spot, one of the voters identified as Mohinder Singh was crushed under their SUV. However, the police has lodged two separate cases in this regard.

In run-down case, police have booked ten persons identified as Sukhdev Singh, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, Nishan Singh, Manpreet Singh, Jaswant Singh, Daljit Singh, Harman Singh alias Mehtab Singh, Anup Bhatti, Lovepreet Singh alias Lovi, Paramjit Singh besides 15-20 unidentified persons have also been booked. The case has been registered following complaint lodged by Jarnail Singh, son of the deceased Mohinder Singh at Mamdot police station under sections 302, 148, 149 IPC. In another case registered following the complaint of the Presiding Officer Anmol Ratan, police has booked 9-10 unidentified persons under sections 171-F, 436, 379-B, 452, 353, 186, 148, 149, IPC and 59, 135-A, 123 Panchayat Raj Act at Mamdot police station.

In another case police has booked five persons including one woman identified as Boota Singh, Tara Singh, Mandeep Kaur, Bohar Singh, Gurdip Singh, Kuldip Singh besides 100 unidentified persons have been booked under sections 353, 186, 332, 427, 506, 148, 149, 171-F IPC and 59, 135-A, 123 Panchayat Raj Act at Mamdot police station for attacking the polling party.

Overall five cases were registered by the police in poll related violence in Ferozepur.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal said that the repolling at Village Lakhmir Ke Uthar will take place on January 2, 2019.
