Separate community policing wing established – district community police officers appointed

Chandigarh, November 5, 2013: In order to give a further impetus to the Community Policing initiative, a separate Community Policing Wing has been established today under the direct supervision of ADGP/Community Policing, assisted by an IGP level officer. A dedicate manpower of 3,085 police officers of all ranks has been put exclusively on community policing duties in the State. Gazetted officers of the rank of SP and DSP have been posted as District Community Police Officers at all district headquarters in the State.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of Punjab police said that as of now, Community Policing Resource Centres were functioning at all district headquarters, Community Policing Suvidha Centres at Sub-Divisional Headquarters and Police Station Outreach Centres in all Police Stations of the State. These Saanjh Kendras are providing 22 services under the Right to Service Act to the citizens. Services include supply of verification reports for Passports, Arms Licences etc., provision of copies of FIRs, DDRs and details of final disposal of cases, NOCs for various purposes, etc. The Saanjh Kendras also assist in resolving disputes in non-cognizable cases with participation of respectable members of the community. Community Policing Committees of respectable citizens have been set up at all districts and sub-division level centres to resolve disputes and reduce social and domestic tension. More than 20 Lacs citizens have availed of the services provided by the Saanjh Kendras in the last 2 years and over 14,000 disputes resolved amicably in the last one year.
