Chandigarh: The BKU on Thursday strongly condemned the statement of agriculture Minister Sh. Radha Mohan when he had said that increase in MSP will not help farmers. On this highly condemnable and imprudent statement of Agriculture Minister, the leaders said that why has Sh Narendra Modi made him a Union Minister of Agriculture when he doesn’t understand the basics of Agriculture. BKU urged PM to send Sh.Radha Mohan for a crash course in Agriculture and Agriculture Economy.

While farmers are committing suicides due to financial hardships, Agriculture Minister is issuing such statements without realizing that farmers don’t control either Input prices or the output prices. Under the garb of Green Revolution (which was basically to feed other non-producing states) agricultural lands of Punjab have been over-exploited and Per acre output has already peaked out. Still the yield of wheat in Punjab is comparable with USA. In that case only way left to visualise Modi’s catchphrase “Double farm Income in 6 years” is to either decrease input prices or increase MSP.

This was discussed in meeting of the BKU was held at Kisan Bhawan Chandigarh under the chairmanship of S. Baldev Singh Mianpur, President BKU Punjab. S. Bhupinder Singh Mann National President of BKU, EX MP and Chairman All India Kisan Coordination Committee specially participated in this meeting. Many important issues were discussed in the meeting.

It was brought out in the meeting that in Border and river side areas, farmers had been allotted lands through registry by Government and farmers are tiling on these lands for many years. Government had taken Rs 6000 to Rs 12000 per acre from farmers for these lands in years 1994 and 2002, 2006.

Now Government is taking these lands back from the farmers and dislodging them. The leaders of BKU condemned this move of the Government and said that BKU will support the victimised farmers.

“We will approach President of India and not allow Government to dislodge farmers from Custodian lands for which farmers have already paid to Government” said S. Bhupinder Singh Mann. He further informed that an 8 member committee of BKU has been constituted which will visit the affected areas and farmers, video-graph it. We will meet the President based on this report.

Keeping elections in mind, Badal Government has released numerous tubewell Connections. Now PSPCL doesn’t have the required equipment and the farmers are facing lot of hardships. This short supply of equipment is leading to corruption which is further breaking the backbone of already bruised farmers.

BKU demanded release of Sugarcane arrears immediately as farmers are facing lot of financial hardships.
