Rural sports becoming popular in Ludhiana district

Ludhiana: Sports fairs are getting popular in rural areas of the district. This is evident from the fact that sports fairs are being organised at different villages. Recently, the 82nd MRF Kila Raipur Sports Festival concluded in the village-stadium at Kila Raipur. Now, two more sports events are being organised in this district.
The first rural sports event `Malwe Da Khed Mela’ is being organised by on February 8 and 9 at Malwa College Bondli playground. This event is being organised by Malwa Sports and Welfare Club, Samrala. NRIs of the area concerned are playing a key role in organising this event. A colourful and attractive poster briefing about the event has already been released.
The events to be included in `Malwe Da Khed Mela’ are as under: 100-m, 400-m, 800-m for boys and girls, 3,000-m (girls) and 5,000-m for boys and the main attraction will be Kabbadi. The Kabbadi matched will be held on February 9. Top eight teams of North India Federation are to participate in Kabbadi matches. Likewise other sports events a cultural programme is also being organized to entertain and enrich the audience with rich Punjabi culture.
The second rural sports event is being organised by the Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust. This event is being held at Jarkhar village on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road, near Ludhiana, from February 10 to 12. The main events would include hockey (boys and girls), kabbadi (one village open) with three outside players, kabaddi (75-kg), volleyball (shooting) with one outside player, basketball (girls) and cycling. Besides, many other regular games will also be seen during the event. A total 8 teams would be there for top honours in the Mata Sahib Kaur Gold Cup Hockey competition. Many artists will also present cultural programme for entertainment of spectators.
It may be mentioned here that many sports events are held in the villages which remained unreported in the media.
