Chandigarh, January 30, 2018: The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh observed Martyrs Day, here today in which S.Charanjit Singh Channi, Cabinet Minister, Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Government of Punjab was the Chief Guest. While giving a special lecture on the Relevance of Gandhi in 21st Century, he explained and advised everybody to follow the ideologies of Gandhi in a true essence. He said the Martyrs give a new way to reach our goals.

S.Charanjit Channi announced grant of Rs. 5,00,000/- to the Department for the promotion of Gandhian philosophy (truth and non-violence).

Shri Kewal Dhingra, Ex - Media Advisor to Ex - Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the Guest of Honour. In the beginning, the dignitaries paid rich tributes and homage to all the martyrs of the Country.

Professor Meenakshi Malhotra, Dean of University Instructions (Acting Vice Chancellor), Panjab University, in her Presidential address, highlighted the importance of the day by explaining the history of the martyrs and their contribution in the Indian freedom struggle.

Earlier at 11 am, two minutes silence was observed by the audience to pay respect to the martyrs.

A book authored by Dr. Ashu Pasricha on World Peace and National Security New Challenges was released on the occasion.

The faculty members, research scholars, students and members of the staff of the Gandhian and Peace Studies Department as well as faculty members, staff and students from other Departments of the University attended the Commemoration of Martyrs Day. The Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Ashu Pasricha extended a warm thanks to all the participants, and all those who attended the function.
