A delegation of PUTIA on Wednesday meets Director, Social Welfare, Punjab at Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, December 31, 2014: A delegation of Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) today met with   Paramjit Singh, Director, Social Welfare, Punjab. The group was led by Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Vice President, PUTIA and Dr Anshu Kataria, Convenor, PUTIA. The delegation requested the immediate release of funds meant for scholarships for students under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe studying in Punjab.
Tejinder Singh (Jasdev Singh Sandhu Group); Er. Sawinder Singh (Sukhjindra Group); Gurfateh Singh (Adesh Group); Gurpreet Singh (Universal Group); Anoop Bansal (Gulzar Group) and H.P.S. Kanda (Quest Group) were also present on the occasion.
While interacting with delegation, Paramjit Singh, Director, Social Welfare, Punjab   said that he has already recommended disbursement  of Rs.288 crore to the finance department, which would be released within a week's time. Regarding 7,000 students pending cases which are pending due to some reasons on the part of student/college/sanctioning authority, would also be considered for scholarship. He assured that because of some small discrepancies, the future of students would not be put at stake.
Regarding OBC scholarship, he further said that Punjab government has received Rs. 17crore from the centre government and the department would pay the maintenance allowance for the students. While tuition fee to the OBC students would not be reimbursed.
Dr. Kataria further requested the department to consider SC/ST students for the scholarship who join their courses in January batch. These admissions are under Punjab Technical University (PTU) and government should give them scholarship. Director, Social Welfare assured that this matter would be brought into the notice of higher authorities.
