PUNJAB TO USE REMOTE SENSING TECHNOLOGY TO CHECK ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTIONS

GOVERNMENT TO SIGN MOU WITH PUNJAB REMOTE SENSING CENTRE, LUDHIANA

LUDHIANA, February 22, 2018: Punjab government would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana to keep the check on the unauthorized constructions and encroachments in the state.

Local Government Minister Mr.Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday claimed that the remote sensing technology would not only help in mapping all illegal constructions in the state but it would also generate huge revenue through collection of all types of taxes from such illegal buildings which usually go uncheck in the absence of the strong mechanism.

Mr. Sidhu was the chief guest of National Conference on ‘Role of Geospatial Technologies to Bridge the Rural and Urban Divide being organized by Punjab Remote Sensing Centre and Indian Society of Geomatics, Ludhiana Chapter at Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana.

Addressing the gathering, the cabinet minister expressed his commitment of making Punjab ahead of others and sought the support of the scientists.

He asked the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre’s officials to send a proposal in this regard which he would discuss with Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh after which the Punjab Government would sign a MOU with them. He lauded the work done by Punjab Remote Sensing Centre in the state.

Mr. Sidhu told that the satellite mapping would help in the preventing the illegal colonies, structures, and encroachments in the urban and as well in rural areas. He said that around 8500 illegal colonies are mushrooming in Punjab at presently.

He also appreciated the presentation made by Mr. Sandeep Tripathi, CEO of Odisha Remote Sensing in which he told how remote sensing technology helping the government in each sector.

Mr. Sidhu was also honoured by Punjab Remote Sensing Centre director Mr. Brijendra Pateriya and others.

Later, the cabinet minister also inaugurated an exhibition and talked with the exhibitors.
