Punjab state election commission allots election symbols for MC candidates

Chandigarh, June 20, 2014: The Punjab State Election Commission has allotted the election symbols to the various political parties for the Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads election. Notification in this regard has been issued.
Disclosing this here, an official spokesperson of the State Election Commission said that this action has been taken in pursuance of Rule 33 of the Punjab Municipal Election Rules, 1994 and Rule 8 of Punjab Panchayat Election Rules, 1994. He said that now all previous notifications regarding publication of list of symbols to be used for Municipal and Panchayat elections would be deemed to have been superseded with effect from the date of issue of this notification.
He said that as per the new publication of symbol allotment, in the category of National Parties; symbol Elephant has been given to Bahujan Samaj Party, Lotus to Bhartiya Janta Party, Ears of Corn and Sickle to Communist Party of India, Hammer Sickle and Star to Communist Party of India (Marxist), Hand to Indian National Congress and symbol Clock has been given to Nationalist Congress Party.
He further said that in State Parties category; Scales symbols has been given to Shiromani Akali Dal, while 87 symbols have been assigned as free, which includes; Almirah, Air Conditioner, Auto-Rickshaw, Ballon, Basket containing Fruits, Bat, Batsman, Battery Torch, Belt, Black Board, Bottle, Bread, Brief Case, Brush, Bucket, Cake, Calculator, Camera, Candles, Carom Board, Carpet, Carrot, Cauliflower, Ceiling Fan, Chappals, Chess Board, Coat, Coconut, Cot, Cup & Saucer, Cutting Pliers, Dao, Diesel Pump, Dish Antenna, Dolli, Electric Pole, Envelop, Flute, Frock, Frying Pan, Funnel, Gas Cylinder, Gas Stove, Glass Tumbler, Grapes, Green Chilli, Harmonium, Hat, Helmet, Hockey and ball, Ice Cream, Iron, Kettle, Kite, Lady Purse, Letter Box, Mixer, Nail Cutter, Neck Tie, Pen Nib with Seven Rays, Pen Stand, Pencil Sharpener, Plate Stand, Pot, Pressure Cooker, Razor, Refrigerator, Ring, Saw, School Bag, Scissors, Sewing Machine, Shuttle, Slate, stethoscope, stool, Table, Table Lamp, Telephone, Television, Tent, Tooth Brush, Trumpet, Violin, Walking Stick, Whistle and Window.
