Chandigarh, October 4, 2013:  The Punjab government would organise a two-day “Progressive Punjab-Global Investment Summit” on December 9 and 10 at Mohali with a view to showcase the investment opportunities available in Punjab in various sectors especially in IT and Electronics. The heads of top business houses, CEOs of noted companies from within and outside India are participating in the summit.
Disclosing this here today at a press conference, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, said that investment opportunities and offers from the state government would be unveiled during the two-day summit. Explaining the concept behind the investment exercise being undertaken by the state, Badal said that Punjab was offering a number of attractive packages and incentives to the upcoming investors in the state. The state has formulating programmes and policies with a view to wooing the established industrial houses in India as well as in foreign countries to invest in the state.
He also said that the state has now reached at a level where it can showcase itself with pride having top class infrastructure, highest road density in the country, five operational and upcoming airports and sufficient power and adequate land bank was available in Punjab, added the Deputy Chief Minister.
Recalling his recent successful trip to Bangalore, Badal said that a lot of enthusiasm was shown by major companies like Infosys – the largest IT Company of the country and Biocon-pharmaceutical have also expressed their keen desire to setup their units in Punjab. Tata Group headed by Cyrus Mistry is also visiting Amritsar tomorrow to work out the modalities in setting up of the new ventures in the state, revealed Badal.
He also said that a high level delegation headed by the Chief Secretary of the state would visit Taiwan to further strengthening the business ties between the two. He also said that Taiwanese delegation had visited Punjab recently and appreciated Punjab’s huge potential, specifically, in agro sector, IT sector and agreed that both India and Taiwan can join hands in the field of IT/software, hardware, electronics, automotive components, food processing, agri-technology and education to build international brands. He also said that in the coming 10 years a lot of market would be captured by electronic goods and the government would be spending more money while importing electronics from countries like Taiwan and Korea. Punjab has also offered Taiwan and Korea, the leading nations in Electronics to set up specific ‘Electronic Towns” in Punjab.
Replying to a query on Bathinda refinery, Badal said that Laxami Mittal has recently expressed satisfaction over the ongoing progress of the refinery and more small industries in Bathinda would also be set up based on by-products of Bathinda refinery. He also said that Mohali and Amritsar would be set up as IT hubs where giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and other MNCs would set up their IT centres leading to employment generation for 50,000 people. Adding further he said that two trade fair centers would also be established at Amritsar and Mohali.
To notify the industrial policy, he said that it was on the final stage and would be notified shortly. He also said that in the industrial policy even the investors’ with medium and tiny industries were being given incentives. Badal Categorically said that Punjab would be a power surplus state after December this as three thermal projects would be commissioned at the end of this year.
