Punjab News-Chevrolet Vintage 1937 Model PNF-235 becomes attraction in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, September 17, 2013: The Chevrolet Vintage 1937 Model, owned by 5th generation is becoming attraction in Ferozepur.

The Vintage car was purchased in 1937 from Lahore, now in Pakistan by Amrit Lal Monga and his father Chuni Lal Monga from British Motor Company, Lahore at a cost of Rs.5,200 only and has been maintained in running condition till today, said Sunil Monga, from the  4th generation, presently running Sai Public School.

As told to him, by his father, Sunil said, “This Vintage car is perhaps the first or second car in Ferozepur which was brought here in Ferozepur from Lahore via Kasur, Hussaniwala Border, before the partition of India.  Such like car used to be a status symbol of royal families”.

Late Amrit Lal Monga and Late Chuni Lal Monga used to be established businessmen in those days which could be counted on fingers as owner of flour and rice mills,  Himalaya Ice Factory and utensil manufacturing factory. 

Narain Kabir Monga said, “We have heard from our ancestors that per acre land rate at that time was Rs.25 only as against Rs.25 lakhs now while the gold rate was Rs.8 per tola. The petrol used to be issued in gallon equivalent to 4.5 liter and diesel has not been invented so far. It is 6 cylinder petrol engine with an average of 4-5 KMs per liter consumption”.

The whole family, especially Master Karan Monga, of 5th generation enjoys its ride, two-three times a month and sometime take along with some old timers who had seen this car moving on the roads and feel pleasures.

This vintage car is with the 5th generation  as many people come to see it. “We will ensure that it is kept in order for generations to come, as an antique of Ferozpeur”, said Sunil Monga.
