Punjab Istri Sabha for No to War and Protection of Women’s Rights
Ludhiana, March 8, 2019: In a seminar organized to mark international women’s day the Punjab Istri Sabha and working Women Forum (AITUC ) Ludhiana on `Women against war and for protection of their rights’ called for peace in the region and reduction of tension between India and Pakistan. Wars lead to deprivation, death and misery and women and children are the worst sufferers in case of any violence be it war or terrorist violence. Therefore it is important to take effective measures and dialogue to curb terrorist violence and prevent war. Addressing the seminar as chief speaker Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal, former Principal Govt. Girls College Ludhiana said that despite several achievements to their credit in all fields the decision making power of women, be in family or in society is far from required. Women have participated equally in the freedom struggle and thereafter in all fields of national development. Dr Gurcharan Kaur Kocher- President of the Sabha said that even though several amendments in the constitution have given some rights to women but much more needs to be done. For this it is important that women realize their own potential and participate in all struggles – scientific, social or political. Others who addressed the seminar include Jit kumari, Avtar Kaur Advocate, Barjinder Kaur, Veena Sachdeva, Kulwant Kaur, Ravi Kanta, Dr Bharti Uppal, Dr Param Saini, Kusum Lata.
