Chandigarh, July 16, 2019: A unique and first of its kind ‘Environmental Cum Music Van’ conceptualized by the famous Sethi Dhaba’s owner and social worker - Sonu Sethi, was flagged off by Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore.
The van has been created by Sonu Sethi and a team of engineers to create awareness among people about tree plantation and the need to safeguard the fragile environment. The van also has a mini stage, where artists and singers will perform and deliver a message to the public to plant trees. This is the reason why the van has been named as ‘Environmental-Cum-Music Van’.
The van was flagged off by UT Administrator & Punjab Governor, VP Singh Badnore, at the PU complex in Sec 25, Chandigarh.
The van will carry out plantation drives by traveling to different places in Tricity, Punjab, Haryana and other regions of North India to start with. The objective will be to plant thousands of saplings in an endeavor to increase the green cover, which is under major threat.
It is noteworthy that the van is equipped to store 4 thousand liters of water, which will be used to irrigate saplings across the length and breadth of North India.
Speaking on this occasion, Sonu Sethi said, “The only aim to build and operate this van is to create awareness about the need to plant trees among people. I feel that this can be done very effectively through music, which has a universal appeal. So artists’ will be singing and performing from a stage made atop the van to spread the word about environment protection.”
“Due to the rapid urbanization the green covers of the city and other regions of the country are decreasing day by day. Rapid deforestation has brought enormous environmental adversity. Now the time has come that we all step up our efforts and plant more trees to increase green cover area.” He added.
Sonu Sethi is a well-known social worker of tricity. It is pertinent to mention that he was also made the district icon of Zirakpur for the Punjab government’s voter awareness campaign, in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. He had used the van in voter awareness for which he has received an award recently. What’s more, Sethi is brand ambassador of the cleanliness drive of Dera Bassi.
