Chandigarh, February 4, 2015: Honouring NCC cadets today at Punjab Raj Bhawan, who have brought laurels to the State of Punjab by participating in the Republic Day Parade and Prime Minister’s Rally held in New Delhi, the Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Prof.Kaptan Singh Solanki gave Rs. 11,000 each to 47 NCC Cadets from Punjab ( 32 boys & 15 girls) and 8 from Chandigarh ( 5 boys & 3 girls) who participated in Republic Day Parade and Prime Minister’s Rally from his Discretionary Fund. He said that National Cadet Corps (NCC) can be termed as a Tri – Services Organization as it comprises of the Army, Navy and Air Force. He said the main aim of the NCC was to groom the youth of the country into disciplined, responsible and patriotic citizens, besides inculcating among the youth a sense of Nationalism and secular outlook that contribute towards a building of a stronger nation.
Congratulating the NCC Directorate, Chandigarh for Securing first position in the country after a gap of 38 years and for banner and trophy being presented by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India during Prime Minister Rally, the Governor said that he was pleased to learn that out of a strong contingent of 166 cadets who participated in Republic Day Camp at New Delhi, 98 cadets were from Punjab and 8 cadets from Chandigarh. He also lauded the role of NCC cadets from Punjab come out with flying colours by winning maximum medals as compared to other states. He also welcome all those cadets who have achieved rare distinction in various national level competitions and brought glory to the State of Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion the Governor said the Youth is a vital part of every society whose energies if tapped properly and utilized for constructive purposes the nation can scale new heights in all spheres of life. He said today NCC organization is not only confined to imparting military training to the youngsters but it also equips the youth to undertake social services activities to serve the humanity in a better way. It is due to the training and inspiration given by the NCC organization that our cadets are able to discharge significant duties such as regulating  traffic, tele-communication services, civil defence, night patrolling and during national crises. During peace times also they are contributing substantially in the field of social services like blood donation, eye-donation, cleanliness, tree plantation, adult education, AIDS awareness and by campaigning against superstitions and social evils, he added.
Congratulating all the officers and other staff who worked hard and made these youngsters capable of taking part in Republic Day Parade, he also congratulated NCC cadets who have made us proud.
Complementing the NCC Cadets for doing well in the Republic Day Celebration, the Governor said that we must make more sincere efforts to show better performance in the next Republic Day Parade also as this region has the tradition of a leadership role and serving as a model of excellence  in different spheres of activity.
Speaking on the occasion Major General G.S. Chima, Additional Director General, NCC said that during the Republic Day Camp there are a number of inter Directorate competitions and opportunities to show case our regions culture and heritage. The cadets of the DTE displayed this through flag area, cultural dance, ballet and a national integration presentation which were highly appreciated by the senior dignitaries visiting the camp, to include the Prime Minister and Defence Minister.
Prof. Solanki presented mementos to all the Cadets and the NCC officers.
Prominent amongst who were present on the occasion included M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Major General G.S. Chima, Additional Director General, NCC, DDG Brig SPS Aulakh and the Group Commandor of Punjab namely Brig RPS Sandhu, Brig. Balvinder Singh, Brig S. Dixit, Brig. Tripathi and Group Commondor Chandigarh, Brig Sekaran and P.K. Goel, Joint Secretary Higher Education were also present on the occasion.
