Chandigarh, February 6, 2018: Punjab BJP president Vijay Sampla has taken strong exception to the state government’s decision of arbitrarily shifting Punjabi and Hindi language teachers from middle schools, stating that this will result in shortage of language teachers.

Condemning the state government’s move, Vijay Sampla said, “Only a single language teacher will be left in middle schools after this decision. In such a scenario, a Hindi teacher will have to teach Punjabi while a Punjabi teacher would have to double up as a Hindi teacher. This diktat of the education department is grave injustice to Punjabi and Hindi languages”.

Sampla further said, “Educationists worldwide have established that the students weak in their native language tend to be weak in other languages and subjects as well. This decision of the education department is whimsical and an exercise to hide the shortage of teaching staff in schools so that no new recruitments are made. It is a despicable attempt to keep at bay the unemployed youth of the state. Besides, this is also a violation of Right to Education”.

Sampla warned of a state-level stir if the education department doesn’t roll back its decision.

It is to be noted that the Punjab government has ordered shifting of 2700 senior Hindi and Punjabi language teachers from middle schools to senior or high schools.
