Chandigarh, September 17, 2014: The Punjab Government has decided to ensure investigation of cases involving NRIs time bound manner and issued instructions to fast track the disposal of NRI complaints.
Jathedar Tota Singh NRI Affairs Minister Punjab announced this while presiding over a meeting with representatives of the NRI community here at Kisan Bhawan. He also said that Punjab Government has also requested the Chief Justice Punjab & Haryana High Court to setup more NRI courts in the state for which Punjab Government is ready to bear all expenses.
NRI Affairs Minister asked the NRIs to constitute 5 member district committees which would be given recognition by the state government. He said that these committees would be attached with the NRI Police Stations that would help in resolving NRI disputes amicably. He also appealed to the NRIs to provide help in saving our youth from the fraudulent marriage and illegal travel agents.  
Jathedar Tota Singh informing the NRIs about the proclaimed offender cases said that state government was collecting complete data of proclaimed NRIs to re-examine their cases. He said that some mechanism was being worked out to remove such persons from the list of POs who were not involved any heinous crimes or for committing petty crimes. He said that no one would be allowed to exploit NRIs to settle their personal family scores.
The Minister assured the NRIs that Punjab Government would provide all required support for the establishment of NRI Punjabi Bhawan in New Delhi and even SAD-BJP MPs would accompany the NRI delegation to the Union Minister for Urban Development & Housing for for the allotment of suitable piece of land in the heart of Delhi. He also assured full cooperation and support for the land allotment for NRI Bhawan at Chandigarh and said that Chief Minister would make a personal request to the Punjab Governor and Administer UT Shivraj V. Patil in this regard.
The Minister said that state government was also in a process to make some amendments in the present revenue act to make division (Takseem) of NRI lands easy and time bound.
The NRI Affair Minister stressing on the serious issue of Drug addiction in the state said that NRIs who spend a lot of money in organising rural sports tournaments in their villages should not allow any drug user to participate in these tournaments and only players clearing dope test by NADA should be allowed to participate.  
Prominent others present in the meeting included Sanjay Kumar Principal Secretary NRI Affairs, B. Purushartha Commissioner NRI Affairs, AIG NRI Police Mandhir Singh, Jasbir Singh Gill and other district wise representatives of the NRI Sabha.
