Punjab Disburses Grant Of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme Of 2014-15 To Educational Institutes

Chandigarh, May 19, 2015: The Punjab Government has disbursed the total grant received from union government under post matric scholarship scheme of 2014-15 to the educational institutions of the state. The Punjab Government has also furnished the utilization certificate regarding the use of Rs.376.87 crore to the GoI.

Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the welfare department said that the state government has received Rs. 376.87 crore (FY 2014-15) to provide the post matric scholarship scheme to the students belonging to SC category. He said that out of this amount Rs. 149.53 crore were used to pay the 50% outstanding amount of scholarship for the financial year 2013-14.

The state government has released state's share of Rs. 60.79 crore. This state share was thus added up into the remaining amount of Rs. 227.34 crore received from GoI and it was released to the educational institutes in February 2015.

Divulging the details of the institutions vis-a-viz the amount released, he said that Rs. 179.21 crore was released to 456 polytechnic and engineering colleges, Rs. 54.56 crore was released to 461 colleges under DPI (colleges), Rs. 20.54 crore was released to 1630 schools under DPI (schools), Rs. 27.66 lakh was released to 2 veterinary institutions, Rs. 5.40 crore was released to 75 institutions of SCERT, Rs. 17.51 crore was released to 275 medical institutes and  Rs. 10.64 crore was released to 316 IITs. He said that in total 251426 SC students have been benefited from this scheme.

Mrs. Seema Jain, Secretary welfare department said that the students of other states who are studying in Punjab could also avail the SC post matric scholarship scheme. "The students belonging to other states can get the scholarship from their home state's welfare department but they have to apply through the institution where they study" she added.
