Chandigarh/Mohali, September 8, 2015: Keeping in view the interest of the students of technical institutions of Punjab, Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) requested Punjab Government to reconsider the decision of affiliating the Colleges of 11 districts with newly formed Maharaja Ranjit Singh state Technical University (MRSSTU), Bathinda.

It is to be mentioned that protests and strikes for the degree of PTU was started in RIMT, Mandi Gobindgarh in which thousands of students were gathered. Situation is grim in the Colleges situated at Banur, Rajpura, Mandi Gobindgarh, Fatehgarh Sahib etc. The activities have gone viral on various social media sites including facebook and You Tube.

An urgent meeting of PUTIA was held under the leadership of President, PUTIA, Dr. J.S Dhaliwal. The meeting was attended by Gian Jyoti (Mohali), SVIET (Banur), Gurukul (Banur), Continental (Sirhind), RIMT (Gobindgarh), Desh Bhagat (Moga), North West (Moga), Aryans Group (Rajpura), Baba Farid (Bathinda), Bhai Gurdaas Group (Sangrur), KCT (Lehragaga), Lala Lajpat Rai (Moga) etc.

Dr. Dhaliwal, President, PUTIA said that PUTIA is fully supporting Punjab Government decisions but at the same time to avoid any violence in the state PUTIA requested Government to reconsider its decision of attaching hundreds of colleges with MRSSTU, Bathinda.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, Vice President, PUTIA said that in last 18 years Punjab has emerged as a destination for the students of other states also. But with this decision thousands of students of these states are ready with their packed luggage to go back to their states. Migration of around 5000 students to their states will result into loss of around 200 crores to State Government.

Kataria further said in last 18 years PTU has gained fame and is recognized by other state universities also. But students have fear in their minds that this newly formed University would get recognition in their states or not.
Dhaliwal further suggested Government to take appropriate action by keeping first year students under PTU for this year and new University should start with good deeds and initiatives rather than strikes, court cases and violence acts.

Dhaliwal added that forming a new university is a welcoming step but because much awareness was not there in other states, students are adamant to study under this newly formed University at Bathinda. He urged Government that this year students should be kept under Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar only.
